TOLES Legal English Certification Courses at the University of Georgia

The University of Georgia’s TOLES Internationally Authorised Legal English Centre is now accepting applications for its TOLES Foundation, Higher and Advanced Certificate Courses in Legal English.

The TOLES Certificate is a lifetime, internationally recognised qualification demonstrating proficiency in Legal English.

TOLES (Test of Legal English Skills) was established in 2000 and is jointly owned by Cambridge Law Studio Limited and Global Legal English Limited.

The certification courses provide participants with an in-depth understanding of practical Legal English used in the UK and the United States, including legal terminology, Latin legal vocabulary and expressions, as well as the relevant grammatical structures and language skills required for professional legal communication.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to communicate effectively in English on legal matters, both verbally and in writing.

Course Duration

• TOLES Foundation and Higher Levels: 10 weeks — two sessions per week, 1.5 hours per session.
• TOLES Advanced Level: 10 weeks — one session per week, 2.5 hours per session.

Format: Fully online

Classes and Examination

The course will be delivered entirely online.

If necessary, individual consultations, orientation sessions or internal assessments may be held at Building IV of the University of Georgia, 77a M. Kostava Street, Tbilisi.

Course Instructor

The course will be led by Tsira Chorgoliani, a University of Georgia lecturer, TOLES-certified specialist in International Business Law, and an experienced Legal English and academic writing and research instructor.

Tsira has more than five years of teaching experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as practicing lawyers.

Course Fees

• TOLES Foundation (A2/B1) — GEL equivalent of USD 550
• TOLES Higher (B1/B2) — GEL equivalent of USD 650
• TOLES Advanced (B2/C1) — GEL equivalent of USD 750

The course fee may be paid in two instalments.

The Course Fee Includes

• Course syllabus;
• Course learning materials;
• A Legal English diagnostic assessment. Based on the assessment results and an interview with the course instructor, participants will be advised on the most appropriate level and preparation group, taking their preferences into consideration;
• Five mock examinations following completion of the course and prior to the certification examination, allowing participants to familiarise themselves with the format and requirements of the international certification exam;
• The fee for the TOLES International Certification Examination;
• The fees for both the course completion certificate and the TOLES examination certificate. Both certificates will be issued in hard copy and electronic format;
• An information and consultation session with course alumni who have already obtained their lifetime TOLES certification.
