On December 3 at 4:00 PM, the School of Health Sciences of the University of Georgia and the Research Institute of Global and European Health and Education will mark World AIDS Day. This year’s international slogan is: “Overcome challenges, strengthen the response to the AIDS epidemic!”
The event will include a roundtable discussion attended by representatives of the AIDS Center, members of NGOs working on health issues, professors of the School of Health Sciences, doctoral students, and undergraduate students. The main speaker will be Nikoloz Chkhartishvili, Senior Public Health Specialist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Georgia Office.
The event will also feature testing for infectious diseases.
World AIDS Day has been observed annually on December 1 since 1988, and its main goals are:
• Raising awareness about HIV/AIDS
• Demonstrating solidarity against the pandemic
• Sharing information and promoting prevention and treatment
The University of Georgia actively strives to support initiatives that raise awareness about diseases and emphasize the importance of prevention.
