Graduate Program in Global and Security Studies

Program Goals:

The aim of the program is to equip students with deep knowledge and professional skills, who will successfully develop their careers in governmental agencies, as well as in academic and analytical organizations.

Professional skills

  • To resolve the dilemma of using a defense/military element as a foreign or domestic political instrument, along with the ability to deal with the dilemma and problem of choice between national interests in the context of global security.
  • To independently research the challenges associated with the constituting elements of security policy, including the structure and management of the defence system by adhering to the principles of academic integrity, by applying advanced methods and approaches.
  • To draw conclusions on the formation and prioritization of the complexity of state interests, considering the dominance of the security factor in the international arena.
  • To critically comprehend the effectiveness of political and especially military instruments in the global security system; also, the ability to evaluate other elements of state power used in a combination with military power.
  • Ability to communicate with the academic and professional community the validity of the theories in the field of international relations and formulate respective empirical evidence of particular policies implemented.
  • Ability to argue the formation of a particular state interest, its dominance and therefore the effectiveness of the mechanisms used in the international politics and security field.

The master's program will enable the students to understand how security policy is developed; What difficulties accompany the field of defense and the use of the armed forces? In addition, students will be able to analyze the close interconnectedness between international politics and security as well as forms of armed conflicts; Furthermore , students understand the dynamics and problems of global processes, as well as the role of international organizations/institutions in solving them.

Additional information

Based on the results of the general master's exams, in order to obtain the right to study at the University of Georgia, the master's candidate is obliged to:

  • Pass the Unified National Master's Examinations;
  • Pass the university-defined exam in English;
  • Interview by specialty.

Graduates of the University of Georgia are exempted from the language test if they have closed B2 level English.

The tuition fee for the master's program is 4000 GEL.
