On May 27, the Department of Georgian Philology at the University of Georgia hosted its annual calligraphy competition dedicated to Mother Language Day.
Notably, international students make up a significant portion of the participants, and their level of engagement continues to grow each year.
The competition consists of several stages, during which participants work on written assignments of varying levels of difficulty and creatively express themselves through Georgian script. The winners of this year’s competition were:
Among them, Vahid Vaniya Amina was awarded first place.
For the Department of Georgian Philology, this event serves to foster greater interest in the Georgian language and script among students, while also enhancing their motivation to learn. This is particularly important given that, since its establishment, the University of Georgia has required all international students to study the Georgian language as a mandatory component of their education.
