Representatives of the University of Georgia’s One Health Institute — Tinatin Elbakidze, Saba Kobakhidze, and Mamuka Kotetishvili — participated in the EOHA Annual Scientific Meeting 2026, held in Madrid on May 18–20. The congress focused on global challenges related to antimicrobial resistance and zoonotic infections, bringing together leading European institutions, universities, and research centers.
The Institute presented three studies on the evolution of antimicrobial resistance genes and the genomic characteristics of bacteriophages. In addition, the University of Georgia led the congress’s first session on environmental and ecological sciences within the One Health framework.
The event provided an important opportunity to share research findings, strengthen international collaboration, and explore advanced laboratory methods that will support the further development of the Institute’s Microbial Genetics and Ecology Laboratory.
