On April 24, at University of Georgia, the Tamaz Beradze Institute of Kartvelology presented a new publication created within the project “Georgian Original Hagiography.” The publication is a comprehensive edition of The Martyrdom of Shushanik.
During the presentation, the authors and researchers shared the results of many years of work, highlighting the importance of this edition as a complete scholarly study of one of the earliest Georgian hagiographic texts. The publication follows modern academic standards and brings together all four versions of the text in one space, allowing readers to compare manuscripts and trace changes in interpretation over time.
The work includes previously unpublished manuscript images, a second volume dedicated to metaphrastic versions, and additional scholarly materials such as research articles and a geographical map to support better understanding of the text.
This multi-volume edition represents a significant contribution to Kartvelian studies and the ongoing research of Georgian historical and literary heritage.
