On February 17–19, 2025, representatives of The University of Georgia participated in a working meeting held at the University of Rijeka, Croatia, as part of the Erasmus+ CBHE project “Enhancing Capacities for Sustainable Community Engagement: Cases of Georgia and Sierra Leone – ENHANCE-GSL”, funded by the European Commission.
The ENHANCE-GSL project is a two-year initiative aimed at strengthening the community engagement capacities of higher education institutions and promoting community involvement in both Georgia and Sierra Leone. The project consortium includes six universities: the University of Georgia (project coordinator), Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University (Georgia), the University of Makeni and the University of Sierra Leone (Sierra Leone), the University of Rijeka (Croatia), and Matej Bel University (Slovakia).
The three-day intensive meeting brought together project partners from Europe, Georgia, and Sierra Leone. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format. While representatives from Georgian and European universities attended in person, participants from Sierra Leonean partner institutions joined the discussions and presentations online.
The three-day meeting included presentations on community engagement practices, shared experiences from European partners, and discussions on future project goals. Key highlights included insights from the University of Rijeka and Matej Bel University on integrating community engagement into curricula and institutional frameworks. The meeting was concluded by focusing on summarizing progress and planning next steps.
