Marina Darakhvelidze graduated from Tbilisi State Medical University Faculty of Medicine ინ 1994. Worked as a doctor (O&G) in the maternity ward for more than 10 years. After that she worked at the Ministry of Labor, Health, and Social Affairs for 8 years in the LEPL State Regulatory Agency for Medical Activities (which is a control body in the health care system) in various positions, and for 6 years - as the Head of the Health Care Department, which was the leading policy unit in the field of health care. The state regulatory agency for medical activity is the controlling body of the healthcare system. Accordingly, her duties in various positions in the direction of the quality of medical services included supervision and external assessment of the extent to which the requirements of existing regulations are complied with requirements for licenses, permits for medical and pharmaceutical establishments, quality of service, patient rights, etc., as well as ensuring the continuity of services of state programs by medical institutions. Healthcare Department at the Ministry was a leading policy unit in the field of health and her main responsibilities were (1) the development of state healthcare programs (all core requirements, related to purchasing medical services and pharmaceuticals in the frame of state programs) and supervision of their implementation by the agencies under the umbrella of the Ministry; (2)the development all regulations (bylaws) and often - projects of laws for further submission to Georgian Parliament in the field of medical and pharmaceutical activities (requirements of license, permissions of medical and pharmaceutical institutions, certification/accreditation of medical human resources, public health regulations and so on); (3) elaboration with appropriate stakeholders policy papers (analytical reviews, strategies, action plans, accounts of their implementation and so on, ); (4) infrastructural issues in the field of health. She also has a master's degree in civil law and is a Ph.D. student in public health program at Ilia State University. Now she is the Head of the Pharmacy Department at the School of Health Sciences, University of Georgia, and invited lecturer at the faculties of Pharmacy, Medicine, and Healthcare Administration. She lectures in bioethics and medical law, bioethics in pharmacy, foundations of pharmacy management, and directs a practical course in healthcare administration.
