Marina Darakhvelidze graduated in 1994 from the Faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State Medical University. She began her professional career as an obstetrician-gynecologist (O&G) and worked in this field for more than 10 years. She subsequently spent 14 years working at the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, including 8 years in the Legal Entity of Public Law (LEPL) State Regulation Agency for Medical Activities, where she held various responsible positions, including Deputy Head of the Agency. During this period, her work focused on the supervision and external evaluation of the quality of medical services, including assessing healthcare providers' compliance with existing regulations, licensing and permit requirements, and the protection of patients’ rights, as well as ensuring continuity of services within state healthcare programs. In the later stage of her work at the Ministry, she served for 6 years as the Head of the Healthcare Department, a leading structural unit responsible for shaping healthcare policy. In this role, she led the development of state healthcare programs and oversaw their implementation by subordinate agencies, contributed to the development of regulatory legislation and draft laws in the fields of medical and pharmaceutical activities, and defined requirements for licensing, permits, accreditation, and certification. She also led the development of key policy documents -strategies, action plans, and analytical reports -in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, and was actively involved in healthcare infrastructure development. She continues to be actively engaged in efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services and serves as a clinical and governance surveyor for the Accreditation Commission for International Health Care (AACI). Marina Darakhvelidze holds a Master’s degree in Civil Law and is a PhD student in Public Health at Ilia State University. She currently serves as Head of the Pharmacy Department at the School of Health Sciences, University of Georgia. She is an invited lecturer at the Faculties of Pharmacy, Medicine, and Healthcare Administration. She teaches courses in Bioethics and Medical Law, Bioethics in Pharmacy, and Fundamentals of Pharmacy Management, and supervises the practical course in Healthcare Administration.
