Bio. Doctor A. Meskhi (Professor; MD; PhD; FRCOG; FAcadMEd) E mail: a.meskhi@ug.edu.ge Education: Graduated from University Medical School (With Honours - 1982) in Tbilisi, Georgia. Underwent initial clinical training in Tbilisi (1982 – 84) and Moscow (1985 – 89); Completed clinical research fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Patho-physiology 1985 – 1988 (defended thesis - PhD in Moscow, 1989). During clinical career (since 1982) was engaged in clinical, research audit and managerial work. (Some of the most important details are listed in the CV supplied). Teaching experience encompasses undergraduate and postgraduate education and training: in Russia, Georgia and in the UK. At undergraduate level: 24 years of teaching experience in the UK included traditional lecturing, leading seminars, Problem (and Project -) Based Learning (PBL) sessions and personally tutoring students: supervising course -, research - and audit projects. At a postgraduate level experience involves: - Guiding and supervising junior and middle-grade doctors in: o acquisition of practical clinical skills in general obstetrics and gynaecology, necessary for work in outpatients’ departments, on inpatients and intensive care wards; o developing practical skills necessary for work on labour wards – assisted and operative, vaginal and abdominal deliveries; o developing surgical skills necessary for work in operating theatres (open-abdominal, vaginal, minimal access - and microendoscpoic surgery); - Guiding and supervising preparation of candidates for the MRCOG (Member of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), DRCOG (Doctor of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists), BSCCP (British society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology), MFFP (Member of the Faculty of Family Planning of the RCOG) examinations and assessments; - 2000 – 2016 was a Mancehster University Medical School PBL Tutor in undergraduate education and the same University undergraduate examiner in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Family Planning modules; - Supervising preparation of candidates for: a. written (short and long essays, MCQs, EMCs, etc.) examinations; b. Viva (presentations, discussions) examinations; and c. clinical skills assessment (wide range of skills in general obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as surgical skills for open and endoscopic surgery, specialist interest skills in open abdominal, vaginal and minimal access surgery). Authored two books on evidence based OSCEs and MCQs for postgraduate clinical education and MRCOG part II examinations. Contributed to development and redevelopment of Syllabi for undergraduate education in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Was the RCOG online educational platform - StratOG author board member and an author of two chapters and their updates. Based on achievements in medical education, in 2016 was elected as a Fellow of Academy of Medical Educators.
