Sergo Shavgulidze received the Diploma degree with honors in “Automatic Electro Communication” from the Faculty of Communication of Georgian Polytechnic Institute, Tbilisi, in 1980, the Candidate of Technical Sciences degree from the Institute for Control Problems, USSR Academy of Sciences (Moscow) in 1984, and the Doctor of Technical Sciences degree from the Institute for Information Transmission Problems, USSR Academy of Sciences (Moscow) in 1991. He was awarded the Title of Professor in 1993. His research interests include information theory, error-control coding theory and coded modulation systems. He has authored over 180 papers on these subjects. Prof. Sergo Shavgulidze took part in many high level international scientific-research conferences and symposiums. Besides, in order to conduct joint research and to give lecture courses, in period 1992-2023, he was repeatedly invited as the guest professor at Darmstadt, Ulm, Konstanz and Essen Universities in Germany, Linköping and Lund Universities in Sweden, Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby, Denmark, and Lancaster University in U.K. During 2006-2023 he took part in numerous conferences and seminars which were held by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). He was elected as the Vice-Chairman of ITU-R Study Groups at the RA-2015, RA-2019 and RA-2023.
