Eduard Marikashvili is a distinguished Georgian human rights defender and lawyer. He holds both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Eduard has been actively engaged in human rights advocacy since 2014. Since 2021, he has served as the head of one of Georgia's leading non-governmental organizations - Georgian Democracy Initiative (GDI). Prior to this, he held positions as a lawyer and later as the head of the Legal Assistance Center within the same organization. Eduard is renowned for his defense of individuals arrested during protests and demonstrations in Georgia, as well as for his involvement in significant cases concerning freedom of expression and media rights. His work spans national common and constitutional courts, as well as the European Court of Human Rights. Eduard is also a co-founder of the Anti-SLAPP Coalition in Georgia. Eduard is an invited lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Tbilisi Free University and the University of Georgia.
