Academic Doctor of Sciences Mariam Gvelesiani is a Senior Research Scholar at the Tamaz Beradze Institute of Kartvelology at the University of Georgia. She has been an Associate Professor at the School of Humanities of the same university since 2007. She teaches three courses: Introduction to World Art; History of Georgian Art; Renaissance Art. M. Gvelesiani is also a Lecturer at the Ilia State University and the University of Michigan (USA) Joint Curriculum AGILE (American-Georgian Initiative for Liberal Education) at the Ilia State University. Mariam Gvelesiani is the author and participant of many pieces of research and scientific projects. She is a member of various local and international scientific organizations. M. Gvelesiani has participated in national and international conferences and symposia and the academic programs of the universities of Budapest, Oxford, Washington, Chicago, and Tehran. Her research interests encompass Georgian archeology, art, and pre-Christian religion, predominantly focusing on Zoroastrianism, the cults and iconography of pagan divinities worshiped in Georgia. She also has published works on some artifacts housed in the Shalva Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts. M. Gvelesiani has translated and published several visual arts books and articles from English to Georgian and vice versa.
