Dr. Marina Tediashvili is the affiliated professor of Microbiology and Immunology and the curator of the biology division of the Department of Natural Sciences, School of Science and Technology at the University of Georgia, Tbilisi, Georgia. Her main permanent affiliation as a scientist is linked to the world reknown scientific center - the George Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology (better known with its short name “Eliava Institute”) in Tbilisi, Georgia. She has certain working experince in the leading research centers and Universities iof Russsia, also Europe and USA. Currently Dr.Tediashvili is the head of Microbial Ecology Laboratory at the Eliava Institute. During about 40 years of her scientific career Dr. Tediashvili has been working in the field of Applied and Medical Microbiology, phage research and phage therapy and development of biocontrol strategies of various bacterial infections in humans, also animals and plants, with major focus on multidrug resistant pathogens. In addition to clinical targets, Dr. Tediashvili has done research related to Environmental Microbiology, in particular, aquatic microbiology and biodiversity, also detection of microbial pathogens, searching the source and routes of their transmission, and elaboration of effective measures for prevention of disease outbreaks. The microbial ecology of indoor facilities, and elaboration of phage –based decontamination methodology is another direction of Dr.Tediashvili’s lab. During last 20 years Dr. Tediashvili participated in 40 international projects funded by Rustaveli National Science foundation, Governmental and private funds of USA and EU, among them- supervising/managing 21 projects. Currently she is PI and Co-PI of two important projects. The results of her works were published in local and international journals, and were presented at numerous international meetings in the US and European countries, as well as in Georgia. Dr. Tediashvili’s expertise in education and teaching has been mainly linked with the Tbilisi State University (since 1982) as a supervisor of Master – and PhD- students, later continued with the Tbilisi State Medical University and Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University. She supervised 16 PhD-students and 24 Master students. During last 25 years Dr. Tediashvili has been periodically teaching Basic and Medical Microbiology in a number of medical schools in Tbilisi. Since 2009 She has been associated professor of Microbiology at the D.Tvildiani Medical University. Starting from 2011 Marina Tediashvili has been actively involved in the educational process at the of University of Georgia teaching a number microbiology courses to the international students School of Medicine and Public Health.
