Dr. Khatia Antia is a global health scientist whose research focuses on migration, conflict, and mental health. She holds a doctorate in Epidemiology and Global Health (Dr. sc. hum.) from the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, completed with a DAAD scholarship. In October 2026, she joins Bielefeld University's School of Public Health as a DFG Walter Benjamin Fellow. There she will lead a comparative study of how health policies shape the mental health of forced migrants in Germany and the UK. At the University of Georgia, she teaches Scientific Writing and Research Methods at PhD and MPH level. She has experience teaching Evidence-Based Health Care in the master's programme in public health at the University of Bremen, supervising master's theses at Heidelberg University and the University of Georgia. At the University of Georgia, she led an ERASMUS+ programme that built global health teaching capacity across 11 institutions in five countries. Her work combines quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods with systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Her doctoral research examined how parental labour migration affects the mental health of children left behind in Georgia. She has published widely on migration and health, in journals including The Lancet Regional Health – Europe, BMC Public Health and PLOS Mental Health. She also serves as a Young Professional with the Lancet Migration EU Hub and peer-reviews for several international journals. She presents regularly at the European Public Health Conference. In 2026, she gave a keynote on "Mental Health in Armed Conflict and Forced Migration" at the Robert Koch Colloquium in Berlin, Germany.
