Modern Political History During the Cold War-HIST3127
Tsotne Tchanturia is a political scientist specializing in Cold War history and the post-Soviet period. He was born in Sokhumi, Georgian SSR, in 1989. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Political Science from Corvinus University of Budapest; an M.A. degree in European Studies from the Europa-Universität Flensburg and a B.A. degree in Political Science from the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Currently, he is lecturing "politics and history of post-Soviet states," and "history of Georgia" at the Caucasus University, and "contemporary political history during the Cold War" at the University of Georgia, Tbilisi. He is teaching Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in History at St. George's British-Georgian School in Tbilisi. He is also a research associate at the Cold War History Research Center in Budapest, where he occupied the position of research coordinator in 2015-2018. His research topics are the following: Soviet Union's foreign policy during the Gorbachev period, Gorbachev's policy vis a vis the Soviet bloc and the Baltic republics, democratization in the post-Soviet space, and the post-Soviet conflicts. He is a native speaker of Georgian and Megrelian; fluent in English, Russian, and German. He is an author and assistant editor of several articles and books, published in Hungary, the U.K., and Georgia. He is a former scholarship holder of DAAD and OSF, for pursuing M.A. studies in Germany and a former scholarship holder of the Tempus Foundation, for pursuing doctoral studies in Hungary
