The University of Georgia is seeking for a highly qualified professional to join us as an Editor-in-Chief of the Caucasus Journal of Social Sciences.

The Caucasus Journal of Social Sciences 

The Caucasus Journal of Social Sciences is a peer-reviewed research journal that aims to publish reports of original research, reviews, and articles of importance to the peoples of the Caucasus region and to the people who have an interest, and who work on this region, but not limited to consider articles of worldwide interest and importance. 

The CJSS raises issues that have not been covered yet and need to be analyzed from the scientific point of view. These include, among others, anthropology, archaeology, economics, education, geography, history, information science, international relations, law, linguistics, politics, psychology, public health, and sociology. Papers in the humanities and other disciplines will be considered if they are related in some way to one or more of these disciplines. 

The language of the CJSS is English. Authors submit manuscripts in the English language with English abstracts of no more than 150 words, the article word limit is about 3000-5000 words

As the Editor-in-Chief of the Caucasus Journal of Social Sciences, you assume overall responsibility for determining the journal’s scientific scope and editorial direction. You will serve as the leader of the journal’s editorial team and be responsible for ensuring the quality and quantity of the research articles published in the CJSS. You will be expected to organize scientific meetings and build a broad network of domestic and international contacts. The CJSS office is in Tbilisi, Georgia, but we are open to considering distance working for the qualified candidates. The position will report to a head of the Publishing House of the University of Georgia. 

Education and Experience:

  • At least MA’s degree required:English, or related fields, preferably with 5years of experience in scholarly publications that includes knowledge of the editorial and peer-review process. 
  • Experience in working with sensitive customerslike scholarly authors and scientific editors will be an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are necessary.
  • Experience in deadline-driven environment required. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Developing and executing on an overall strategy for the journal.
  • Managing and enriching the journal’s editorial team.
  • Overseeing various aspects of the manuscript handling workflows. 
  • Communicating daily with editors, authors, and reviewers regarding the peer-review process. 
  • Making decisions on manuscripts in collaboration with the editorial team.
  • Recruiting exciting papers within the scope of the journal.
  • Checking the articles for plagiarism.
  • Reviewing all submitted manuscripts for adherence to the journal’s submission requirements, and compliance with APA policies.  
  • Proofreading the articles after determining the articles’ status. 
  • Collaborating on production workflows, marketing, social media, and website liaising with other CJSS editorial teams.
