Study Group on the Theory of Set

Study Group on the Theory of Set (Disposition Theory) for Psychology Program Students
Group Supervisors: Lela Tkeshelashvili, Nana Burduli

Main Objective of the Group:

To thoroughly explore and analyze the formation and development trends of D. Uznadze's general psychological Theory of Set (Disposition Theory).

Group Topics and Corresponding Educational Activities:

Topic:

Set as the Central Concept in Uznadze's Psychological System; the History of the Experimental and General Psychological Theory of Set

Activities:

  • Study of historical, biographical, and scientific materials;

  • Familiarization with museum, library, and thematic photo/video materials;

  • Structuring acquired information, presentations, and thematic discussions.

 Topic:

The Role and Place of Set Theory Among Major Psychological Paradigms and General Psychological Schools

Activities:

  • Theoretical overview: the concept of set across various psychological schools;

  • Comparative analysis of how Set Theory interprets key psychological constructs such as:

    • The unconscious

    • Motivation

    • Personality

    • Needs

    • Thinking and volition

    • Morality

    • Sleep and dreams

    • Behavior

  • Review of materials from the 1979 Tbilisi Symposium on the problem of the unconscious;

  • Structuring acquired information, presentations, and thematic discussions.

Topic:

“Uznadze’s School” – Further Development of the Theory in the Scientific Works of His Students; Key Research Directions

Activities:

  • Review of scientific literature by Uznadze’s students: R. Nadtadze, Sh. Nadirashvili, I. Bzhalava, D. Ramishvili, B. Khachapuridze, Sh. Chkhartishvili, A. Sherozia, and others;

  • Structuring acquired information, presentations, and thematic discussions.

Topic:

The Current State and Developmental Trends of Set Theory in Theoretical and Applied Fields (Psychodiagnostics and Psychotherapy/Counseling)

Activities:

  • Search and analysis of recent studies, conference materials, and monographs by modern researchers in Set Psychology;

  • Structuring acquired information, presentations, and thematic discussions;

  • Summary of group work and publication of electronic resources online.
