On October 13, the University of Georgia will host an open seminar titled “Democratization and Autocratization in the World and the Caucasus,” organized by the V-Dem Caucasus Research Hub and the Youth and Social Research Center.
The event will be opened by Konstantine Topuria, Rector of the University of Georgia, and Erik Malmberg, First Secretary of the Embassy of Sweden and Head of Political Affairs and Promotion of Sweden.
The event will also mark the appointment of Professor Staffan I. Lindberg of the University of Gothenburg as the Academic Director of the University of Georgia’s V-Dem Caucasus Research Hub and the Youth and Social Research Center.
As part of the open seminar, Staffan Lindberg will deliver a presentation titled:
“25 Years of Autocratization – Now the USA?”
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on:
“Democratization and Autocratization in the World and the Caucasus”
The panel will feature Staffan Lindberg alongside:
Shalva Dzebisashvili – UGSPN, University of Georgia;
Hans Gutbrod – Ilia State University;
Iago Kachkachishvili – Tbilisi State University.
The panel discussion will focus on the following key topics:
Current trends in democratization and autocratization around the world;
The 25-year global trend of autocratization;
The current democratic trajectory of the United States;
Democratization and autocratization processes in Georgia and the South Caucasus.
The audience will also have an opportunity to ask questions during the discussion.
