Seminar "Together for Health - Let's Support Science!" to celebrate World Health Day

2 April 2026

On April 6 at 4:00p.m. the School of Health Sciences at the University of Georgia will host a seminar dedicated to World Health Day at the Institute for Global and European Health Education and Research. The event will be held in a roundtable format, bringing together field specialists, researchers, and interested members of the public to discuss the importance of One Health.

The seminar aligns with the 2026 World Health Day message — “Together for Health. Support Science!” — which calls on society to rely on science-based decision-making and to strengthen multisectoral collaboration to protect the health of humans, animals, and the environment.

World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7 and is linked to the adoption of the Constitution of the World Health Organization in 1948. Since 1950, this date has become one of the most important global health awareness platforms, focusing each year on critical issues affecting global health.

This year’s campaign places special emphasis on the One Health approach, which views human, animal, and environmental health as an interconnected system. Modern challenges—such as pandemics, climate change, and environmental pollution—highlight that protecting health is only possible through collaboration and science-based policies.

As part of the 2026 campaign, a global One Health Summit and the first global forum of WHO collaborating centers will be held, bringing together hundreds of scientific institutions worldwide.

The event at the university on April 6 will be opened by Amiran Gamkrelidze, Director of the Institute for Global and European Health Education and Research.

The main presentation will be delivered by Mamuka Kotetishvili, Director of the One Health Institute, followed by a discussion involving participants.

The seminar aims to strengthen the importance of science-based decision-making, restore trust in public health, and promote professional dialogue.

Date:  April 6, 4:00p.m.

Location: Tbilisi, 21a Petre Kavtaradze Street, Tbilisi, School of Health Sciences, University of Georgia
