On May 4th, an event dedicated to the International Day of the Portuguese Language was held by The University of Georgia, the Embassy of Brazil in Georgia and "Camões Portuguese Language Institute" centre.
Initially, the rector of The University of Georgia, Konstantine Topuria, and the Ambassador of Brazil to Georgia, H.E. Oswaldo Biato Júnior addressed the audience. Konstantine Topuria briefly overviewed the history of relations between Georgia and Portugal, and Mr. Ambassador emphasized the importance and future perspectives of relations between the two countries. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the event.
In the first part of the event, the professor of The University of Lisbon, Ennes Ferreira, gave a lecture - Portugal in Europe and in the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to obtain information from Professor Ferreira on matters of interest to them.
The event continued with the presentation of the translation of two novels by the famous Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector - "The Hour of the Star" and "Near to the Wild Heart". The public learned directly from the translator, Nino Lortkipanidze, why Lispector is an important writer in the entire Lusophone world and what challenges accompanied the translation process.
