Another article by Sophia Sikharulidze, a doctoral student of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Georgia, and Tinatin Manjavidze, Associate Professor at the same school, Sociodemographic and maternal predictors of elevated blood lead levels during pregnancy in Adjara, Georgia has been published in the journal Environmental Epidemiology, which addresses the factors associated with elevated blood lead concentrations during pregnancy.
Within this study, data from more than 8,000 pregnant women were used from the birth registry and the database of the Adjara Public Health Center's program regarding lead concentrations during pregnancy. Based on the combined data, it was determined that in 50% of the pregnant women, the blood lead concentration exceeded 5 µg/dL, while in 14%, it was 10 µg/dL, which indicates the existence of a significant burden of lead exposure.
