European Public Health Week

On May 16-20, 2022, the University of Georgia hosted the events devoted to the European Public Health Week, which included the following five public health topics:

  • May 16 - Dental hygiene for children

Lecturer of the Dentistry Department of the School of Health Sciences, prof. Ketevan Nanobashvili delivered at the UG School educational lesson on oral health for pupils aged 6-7.  After the lesson interested students visited the dental clinic "UG DENT", get acquainted with the environment, dental procedures and received advices from dentists on oral care. They participated in the simulation game "At Tooth Fairy’s" and were presented with an invitation to the oral screening procedure of the dental clinic "UG DENT".

  • May 17 - HPV vaccine for cancer prevention

Lecturer of the Medicine Department of the School of Health Sciences, ass. prof. Tamuna Gogoladze delivered public lecture “HPV vaccination for prevention of cancer”. Goal of the lecture was to provide students and academic staff with the information on ways to prevent cervical cancer. Particular attention was paid to the role and importance of vaccination against human papillomavirus in the process of elimination of cervical cancer. The lecture was conducted in English. 

  • May 18 - Impact of environmental factors on population health

Doctoral student of the public health program of the School of Health Sciences, Nino Lochoshvili delivered public lecture “Impact of climate change on population health”. After the public lecture UG students prepared visual messages about environmental health and safety.

At the same time, in the school of the village of Bethlehem in the Gori district a "green lesson" was held with the involvement of UG students and pupils made pictures on environment protection and painted the school yard.

  • May 19 - Mental illness-related stigma and its destructive effect on treatment

Representative of the Public Health Department of the School of Health Sciences, Ketevan Telia delivered public lecture on “Mental illness-related stigma in society and its negative impact on patient treatment”. Goal of the lecture was to provide students and academic staff with the information on the mental illness-related stigma and specifics of treatment process. Lecture was delivered in English.
