On October 21, a public lecture titled “What Is Urban Studies?” was held at the University of Georgia for students enrolled in the Architecture program, at the initiative of INCUHE of Georgia.
The lecture was delivered by Vladimir (Lado) Vardosanidze, a Georgian architect and urban planner who has been actively working in the fields of urban development, spatial planning, and urban policy for many years. He has published academic papers and critical articles on his architectural and urban planning projects, as well as various aspects of contemporary architectural practice, in Georgian, English, German, and Russian.
Drawing on examples from Tbilisi and other parts of Georgia, the guest speaker discussed urban development challenges with students. The session also featured interactive discussions of international case studies and solutions that have significantly transformed urban environments and addressed urban challenges.
It is worth noting that one of the project’s organizers was INCUHE of Georgia (the Association for the Protection of the Country’s Intangible Cultural Heritage), which actively collaborates with schools and universities across Georgia to provide high school students interested in architecture, as well as university students enrolled in architecture programs, with a variety of educational and interactive sessions. These activities specifically focus on the presentation and discussion of architectural projects.
The lecture gave students an opportunity to explore the field of urban studies and better understand its role and importance in the development of contemporary society. They also had the chance to receive practical advice from the guest speaker and establish professional connections that may lead to future collaboration.
