ICC Commercial Mediation Competition

The team of the Law School of the University of Georgia (UGLS) was the first team from Georgia which won the third-place prize at the ICC Commercial Mediation Competition.

The competition is held annually in February in Paris. The competing 66 teams are chosen by the competition rules among the world’s leading law schools. In the first 4 rounds The University of Georgia played against USA’s Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, Brasil’s Sao Paolo Law School, Denmark’s Aarhus University and India’s National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR).

The preliminary rounds were successful and our team placed among the best 16 teams. In the final eight we went against Canada’s University of Montreal and ended up victorious. Our team advanced to the quarterfinals. In the final 8 teams we competed against a Texas university – South Texas College of Law Houston and also won.

Our team advanced into the best 4 and in the last round played against the tournament favorite New Zealand’s University of Auckland. The game with them was very spectacular, although our team did not advance to the finals, we lost to the winner of the competition.

Not a single competitor from Georgia was able to achieve getting into the best 16 teams. The team of The University of Georgia made history for our law school, our University and most importantly our Country.
