Within the framework of the Erasmus + ENHANCE-GSL project, the University of Georgia (UG) has established a Community Engagement Unit to strengthen cooperation between the university and local communities and promote sustainable community engagement.
The Unit provides an institutional framework for coordinating community engagement activities, developing partnerships and addressing local community needs. It aims to strengthen collaboration between the university and civil society organisations, local authorities, schools and other community stakeholders.
Equipped with the necessary infrastructure and technical resources, the Unit supports workshops, training activities, online collaboration and community outreach. Its work is further supported by the community engagement manual developed within the ENHANCE-GSL project, which provides guidance for implementing community engagement initiatives.
Through training and capacity-building activities delivered within the project, UG staff have strengthened their knowledge and skills in community engagement. The Unit will help share this expertise with colleagues and students and promote the integration of community engagement into the university’s activities and practices.
The establishment of the Unit marks an important step towards building stronger university–community partnerships and ensuring that cooperation between the University of Georgia and local communities continues beyond the ENHANCE-GSL project.
