Born in 1992, Nodar Kvanchiani is an architect, urban designer, and researcher based in Tbilisi. From 2020 he is assigned as an invited lecturer at the University of Georgia where he leads a practical and theoretical undergraduate studio - Basics of City Planning. As for his professional practice, with Salome Gugunava, he founded the multidisciplinary studio ALTERTOPOS. As well as, he is co-founder of an educational platform - METAFORM, that is concentrated on the research of Georgian modernist architecture. In 2020, Metaform team made the research and international workshop named "Critical Analisis of Georgian Architecture" within the frames of Tbilisi Architecture Biennial. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Planning at the Technical University of Georgia Nodar Kvanchiani continued his education in Italy. From 2015 to 2018 he studied the master of science program in Architecture - Architectural Design at Politecnico di Milano. Under the supervision of Professor Stefan Vieths, Nodar Kvanchiani in collaboration with Hamed Jahanbaz developed the thesis - Theatre Academy in Berlin, where they explored the limits of contradictions between the modern morphology and the historical dimension of the urban fabric of Berlin. For his thesis, Nodar is nominated for the Young Talent in Architecture Award-2020. After practicing in Milan with Degli Esposti Architects, and in Barcelona, with Arriola & Fiol Architects, he comes back to Tbilisi. In Georgia, Nodar is mediating between imaginary boundaries of practice and theoretical research of architecture.
