UG Professor Recognized Among the Top 2% of Highly Cited Scientists Worldwide

Prof. Fariborz Sharifian Jazi, a faculty member of the School of Science and Technology at the University of Georgia, has been recognized among the top 2% of highly cited scientists worldwide. The recognition is based on a global database of researchers developed using bibliometric data provided through Elsevier and Scopus.

According to the available data, Prof. Sharifian Jazi was included in the 2023 list of the world’s top scientists based on indicators of scientific productivity and citation impact.

What Is the Recognition About?

The ranking identifies researchers whose scientific publications have received a high level of citations compared with other researchers included in the database.

According to Google Scholar, Prof. Sharifian Jazi has published 70 journal articles, has an h-index of 31, and has received more than 2,350 citations.

In simple terms, these indicators provide information about the volume of a researcher’s published work and how frequently that work has been cited by other researchers.

Key Result

Prof. Fariborz Sharifian Jazi was included among the top 2% of highly cited scientists worldwide in the 2023 list.

The selection was based on a standardized set of bibliometric indicators used to compare researchers across scientific fields. These indicators include citation counts, the h-index, the hm-index adjusted for co-authorship, citations to papers according to the researcher’s position in the author list, and a composite indicator.

How Is the List Compiled?

The analysis was conducted by Elsevier B.V. using a publicly available database containing information on more than 100,000 highly cited scientists.

The database provides standardized information on researchers’ citation records and other bibliometric indicators. Scopus data provided by Elsevier through ICSR Lab was used for the analysis.

The methodology is intended to account for several aspects of research impact rather than relying on a single indicator such as the number of publications or total citations.

Researcher and UG’s Role

Prof. Fariborz Sharifian Jazi is a faculty member of the School of Science and Technology at the University of Georgia.

His inclusion in the 2023 global list provides a bibliometric measure of the citation impact of his research and places his work within an international database used to analyze the research performance of scientists across different fields.
