Certificate Course in Filmmaking

Above all, a filmmaker is a storyteller. The aim of the Georgian American Film Academy is to prepare audio-visual storyteller who will create an original product and become a professional in the art of filmmaking.

Located in Tbilisi, Georgia, the Georgian American Film Academy of the University of Georgia is offering a 3 month Certificate Course in English Language that gives students the opportunity to delve into the full cycle of filmmaking, from development to distribution.  Students will receive well-rounded knowledge in all aspects of filmmaking by means of practical education and working on real projects, using state of the art, modern technologies used in filmmaking, allowing them to create individual portfolios.   Students will thus master all the skills of a professional filmmaker that will pave their way to excellent career opportunities not only in the field of filmmaking but also in the fields commercial and television.

Workload and stages of the Certificate Course:  

1. The first period is devoted to the theoretical part of script creation and other aspects of film production (directing, producing, cinematography, painting, editing).
2. This period is dedicated to preparing the shooting of the film according to the scenarios (location search, casting, scenery and other logistical issues).  
3. The final period is devoted to filming and its post-production (editing, sound design, color correction and music).

The acceptance criterion is a motivational letter, in which the applicant must submit a half-page motivational letter explaining his/her motivation and expectations related to the course.  

Recommendations: 

1. It is desirable to have an idea that you intend to develop into a screen.
2. Please note that the theoretical lectures of the first period of the 3-month course will be available online. Physical presence for the practical part of the course, including the filming process, is required.   

At the end of the Course, students will acquire a special certificate of completion and most importantly, a personal short film, with his/her name in the subtitles.

Tuition and payment

Students enrolled during this particular admission period will benefit by receiving a special 30% discount, so their total tuition fee for the English-language Certificate Course in Filmmaking amounts to $3500 (instead of $5000), which includes the registration fee ($200) and the cost of using all necessary technical equipment necessary for the making of a short film.  

The tuition fee can be divided into 2 parts according to the following schedule: 

1. Before registration ( before January 10th) - $1750 (equivalent in GEL)
2. March 16^th- $1750 (equivalent in GEL)
